Patriots at Jets

pats oline.jpg

This is the first time that I can remember using a picture to illustrate our betting stategy. I tried to get a picture showing all five offensive linemen.  Earlier this week, New England had all five linemen listed as Questionable to play tonight's game.  As of this morning...

LT is OUT  -   LG is OUT  -   Center is ??  -  RG is IN  -  RT is ??

So the entire left side is OUT. The blind side. New England has limited skill players in the passing game.  Tight End Hunter Henry is their main target.  KJ Osborn, Demario Douglas and JaLynn Polk are not household names at WR.

Patriots script their first 15 offensive plays.  This gives them a fast start, allowing them to play ball control run football.  The Jets know this very well.  If New England can not run ball (probably to the right side), they will have problems moving ball down the field.  CAN THE PATS RUN THE BALL?  Normally I would say YES against this current Jets defense.  However... SHORT WEEK with LIMITED O-LINE and ROAD game.  I see Patriots struggling on offense.  They scored 15 and 3 last year vs Jets.  In a clean game without turnovers, I see the Pats scoring 13-16 here, allowing for 7 on opening drive.

Like him or not, Aaron Rodgers is an intelligent veteran QB.  He plays to win versus playing pretty these days. He has the advantage of playing home on a short week.  He knows that he must start fast tonight. If the Jets get up 10 points, the Patriots gameplan probably changes mid-game.  Attempting to sit in the pocket with this O-Line will be a challenge.  CJ Mosley is listed as Questionable for Jets.  His presence, if healthy, will be a factor. He can bring chaos in a low scoring game.  A scoop and score or Pick6 in this type of game is almost always lethal.

I can only see one path to victory for New England. Start fast, score early, win the turnover battle. play clean football (penalties) and limit possessions to 10 -12.  All of this on the road in New York on a short week.  While not a fan of HC Robert Saleh, I can't see Rodgers not grabbing this win tonight.

The Jets are playing their 3rd game in 11 days. If this was closer to Thanksgiving, this would be much more of a factor.  However this is their HOME OPENER. The Jets have hopes of winning. This isn't the norm in their building.  Remember how quickly their hopes crashed and burned last year.  Losing to San Francisco was only a litmus test for them.  The win against the Titans was a good road win.
